FS: 1964 - 1968 Reproduction Grey Vinyl Messko Tire Gauge Pouch

I was about to bump the reproduction Messko tire gauge pouch thread and realized it wasn't mine at all, it was Trevor’s (trkaus)! So I’m linking to his WTB thread here: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...read.php?71121 It contains the genesis of the Messko pouch project from last winter.

If you look at the original thread I had two variations of original pouches. There were two different gray vinyl samples and slightly different Messko stamps. I created a hybrid of these two. As was pointed out at the time I didn't realize the logos were slightly different but of course had to choose one vinyl type or the other. It turns out I used the stamp from one and the vinyl pattern from the other! This will keep those with original pouches happy and if anyone notices at a concours they’re at the top of their game!

This gray pouch came with all maroon Bakelite Messko tire gauges starting with 356 toolkits in 1964. Porsche placed Messko’s in 911’s and 912’s until some point in 1968. After that you didn't get a tire gauge but you could order a maroon Bakelite Messko over the counter from the parts dept, I’m told, into the early 70’s. These over the counter Messko's would have come with the same grey vinyl pouch as they did when included in toolkits prior to the 1969 model year.

Each pouch is $35/ea + $3 for shipping w/in the USA. $5 for International shipping.

Carl, free bump for the history lesson, can you tell me when or for what make did Messko do chrome metal gauge, dark grey to black leather stitched case with their gold paper tag on a red string attached to one corner at the flap? I had assumed Porsche but maybe MBZ? or?
My brother found 4 at a flea market in Detroit gave gave them to me for my birthday, when I pointed out to him what they were (beyond German tire pressure gauges) and pointed him to ebay for $ reference, I kept two and left him with two. Although I now need to con him out of 1 more for my 3rd car.

Any info appreciated can post pic if it helps.

    Regards

    Jerry,

Eric Cherneff's 356 toolkit site is a good place to start: http://www.356.ca/tools/messko_gauge.htm

If you need more detail than that or have more questions (nothing is ever really straightfoward with toolkits) there are some very knowledgeable people here on the 356 Registry 'Authenticity Corner': http://porsche356registry.org/356talk/13.html

Carl thank you for the links, now my you have my interest in them, The pouches look to match the 55, 56 with correct snap and foil tag, the gauge face matches the " D.B. Pat. u. GM Made in Germany" marking BUT the readings match the left most unit in the non 356 gauges, that go to 35psi and have 3 marks past it, as with the Omega, that is the only one I see with the scale reading beyond the last number 35, and marked Lbs p.sq. I.

    Thanks again
