Cool 2014 : USA Run (Porsche road trip)

    Dear fellows,

I would like to organise a 7 to 10 days Porsche road trip in 2014 in the USA. I have in mind to do it end of may 2014 to match with Indy500 and a trip to few fantastic US tracks. The trip I have in mind is west to east, and European mates might join and maybe could meet ERSG members.

an annual early 911 s (huge) meet event ?

So, any idea of an itinary ? As anyone done this ?

    Feel free, any ideas welcome.
    Cheers
    Xavier

Early May is the traditional date for Treffen on the West coast. That would be a good start point.
Lots of good routes East on back roads, ask me how I know. A list of points of interest you would like to see would help with the planning.

Xavier...I wonder if such a trip might be in line, or similar to, the annual Power Tour sponsored by Hot Rod Magazine for American street rods, and muscle cars. I'm not saying join them. But look at some of the web sites about the Power Tour, and you'll see maps and roads they took, as well as seeing that a lot of the Power Tour runners only ran with the Tour for a certain distance, say 2-300 miles. That may attract more early 911 owners...Just thinking out loud...

I did treffin and saw the indi 500 testing in 2011. A whole report and itinerary is here taking me back to my home in NYC. I've been back and forth three times with three different routes though I'm sure others here have done it a lot more then me I'd be happy to share my thoughts on Skype or something.

Here's is the link to my trip thread from 2011. http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...-country-drive

One more thing I'm sure the size of the US is daunting but for the most part there are five main routes across the country. So pick out things you know you want to see and thread your way through. Couple of more points, California deserves its reputation as being fantastic, Texas is probably as big as France, Utah looks like the moon, (in a good way). The route east from Chicago will be harder to make mythic. Some famous cool tracks that might not be as known in Europe are; Elkhart Lake, VIR, Warkins Glen.

I just bought detailed maps of the USA ( 8 in total :-)

I have listed several things I would like to cover during that trip : Indy500, R-Gruppe meeting, laguna Seca, few Porsche Shops (Easy, Vintage Resto, etc..), and of course the tourist things to see.
I would like to meet along the way Early911Registry members and have a good moment with.

Boba, thanks for the post and the MP
Yale, Thanks for the link, very useful. I know the two tracks you mention, I am watching a TV channel with most of the race being in US.

Now get to work, place all amps on the floor, and find the best 7-10 days run. Will keep you posted.
