What color is the metal portion of the heater control valves on the inner rocker panel supposed to be. I bought a set of repops and they are bare metal.

They are black in my 66-912. I looked at pix in Peter Morgans "Original Porsche 911" book and they appeared to be black also.

Here's a photo from an early 911 brochure that shows them in natural metal. All of the ones I have seen have been a natural metal finish.

The ones I have in my '66 911 coupe are unfinished metal with black plastic sliders: I got a back up set from a '68 912 and they are finished in black with black plastic sliders... I am happy to post photos of both if required!

When you guys say unfinished metal do you mean raw steel with no anti-corrosion whatsoever.
It seemed to have something on it but was quite cruddy on mine so I cleaned it and just applied some clear Tectryl

Silver. Probably Zinc as Jim suggests. Would be a bit more sturdy than cad in the application.
