Dash Panel- going back to stock radio

Currently have a non period radio in my dash. I want to go back to the stock radio. What's the best way to return the panel to the smaller, correct size hole for the stock radio?

    Thnx

More experienced members are invited to chime in, but your car looks to be of a vintage that has a standard DIN hole for radio mounting. The radio that's pictured probably slid right into that hole without cutting the dash. 1969-1973 cars were typically sold with a Blaupunkt radio with side clips that center the radio in the middle of the VIN hole, and the radio is secured with a mounting strap at the back. An aluminum faceplate with grained vinyl (to match the adjacent dash) covers the gaps around the radio such that only the knobs and bezel are visible. Hope this helps.

Thnx for the help so far. It's a 73.5. I have the correct radio and wasn't sure the best method to reduce the hole size. I want to bring it back to stock. My pals a metalworker, so I was thinking if removing the dash panel holding the radio/heater controls and rework the hole so its the correct original size and not use and adapter plate. Any other suggestions as an alternative?

Do you know where I can get the original type black leather
With the correct grain to refinish the panel once I create a smaller hole?

    Thnx again

Hey Jens no worries, didn't take it that way your dash panel radio cutout looks to have a larger hole than what I need. I'm trying to mount a Blaupunkt Frankfurt 7 639 670 as in the pic. I want to mount it with the precise size original hole for the chrome trim ring area and 2x potentiometers to poke thru the trim panel as stock.

If this is the same poster as on the bird, from what I see is that your brackets are too deep into the radio opening. Something is wrong. The too large opening you see above is exactly what all our cars have. Look for some brackets that let the face of the radio protrude a bit more and then the trim plate goes on.

thanks for the ebay links... I've seen these on ebay... don't mean to come off clueless, but most original dashes look to have no trim ring around the radio chrome bezel or the 2x tuning/volumepots. I am fairly sure the middle trim piece sandwiches behind the back of the dash panel, but in front of the radio, right? or does it go in front of the radio and get's covered with leather? That doesn't seem correct? What is the top trim ring for and the bottom is a radio delete panel?
