    Hand-size holes next to smugglers box?

    Hi guys,
    Was inspecting a RHD 2.2S today. The trunk was in good (original) condition with no evidence of rust. However, on either side of the RHD style smuggler's box (like the photo below that I found on Pelican) there was a palm-size round hole that had been cut out of the trunk by a previous owner and then crudely patched. It didn't look like a rust repair, more like a mod that had been reversed by bolting two round pieces of metal over the holes.

    Unfortunately I didn't think to take a photo, but I wondered if anyone had any ideas on why this might have been done/ what this might have been if it was a mod?

    I have a horrible feeling that you might be right Tim. At some point in the past 40 years some cretin cut holes and put speakers there!!!
