Bruce Anderson: A Celebration of Life

The planned event to celebrate the life of Bruce Anderson is now officially scheduled, and there have been postings on Facebook and Pelican. The staff at Canepa Design are asking for RSVP's so that they can get a head count. I suspect that they're going to have to shut down Scotts Valley Drive for this one, because it's impossible for anyone with more than a passing interest in Porsches in America not to have interacted in some significant and meaningful way with Bruce. The first time that I met him it turned into a spirited hour-long conversation about all things Porsche -- and seemingly everything else under the sun. Within a minute it was like I was talking to an old friend and ever since, Bruce never failed to recognize me when we would cross paths, and flash his 1000-watt smile. I know that it wasn't just this way for me -- Bruce Anderson treated us all like family. Like family, we should attend this celebration if we can.

The Bruce Anderson celebration this afternoon was attended by a Who's Who of Porsche-dom, especially from the '70's and '80's. Betty Jo and Len Turner led a true celebration of the man. In attendance were many luminaries who worked closely with Bruce over the years, including Bob Garretson, Jerry Woods, Alwin Springer, Dale Miller, and others. Pete Stout promises that many of the irreverent remembrances will be featured in a future edition of the PCA Panorama magazine. The good folks at Canepa Design, led by Bruce Canepa, put in many long hours getting the facility into even more perfect order than usual, bringing in some phenomenal Porsches, and providing an excellent trio to serenade the gathering with Bruce's beloved all-American jazz.

Rest in Peace Mr Anderson. I fondly remember taking the Anderson/Woods engine rebuilding class many years ago. I never really understood how influential he was to Porsche community until many years after taking the course.
