Richard, I have spent years compiling the attached, what questions do you have?

thank you, my pal in Montreal is puzzled by 2 yellow wires at the starter. I dont have a 67 here to compare with his to see if original or altered and where do they connect
appreciate your input. I will forward this to him.

Tell your Pal from Montreal that the 2 yellows at the starter are
1 from igniton switch to starter solenoid-- when this is energized, the starter solenoid kicks in, moving the gear and making the connection between the battery and starter motor!
the other yellow goes to the ballast resistor 86-- this energizes the relay coil which causes the ignition coil to receive full battery voltage, bypassing the ballast resistor. The coil can handle this for short periods and anyway, the starter motor is sucking so much juice that it's not 12V anyway.
MFI coldstart ran off of this but that was not until 69
hope this helps

My pal Leo has one more wire he wonders where it goes, its the blue wire that I believe is for the red alt light at the bottom of the speedo. Is that right?
he will be sending photos of his panel and I'll post them
thanks
Richard

The blue wire attaches to the Alternator harness/plug at the Voltage Regulator...and yes, it is for the alternator light at the speedo/dash.
Bonjour Monsieur Serpent:
In the attached photo are labeled the voltage regulator connections. They are:
DF-- black wire, "dynamo field"-- to DF spade connector on the brush holder on back of alternator
D+/61 -- blue wire, to D+/61 ring terminal on back of alternator
D- -- brown wire, ground, to D- terminal.
Also make sure you have a brown ground wire running from the alternator D- to one of the case parting line bolts-- a good ground is essential for proper charging.
Other wires you asked about-- black/purple is the tachometer lead, goes to coil negative terminal (1)
The yellow wire with the flag terminal-- goes to ballast resistor relay terminal 86, this is the upper right terminal in the attached photo (the relay sitting on the black background).
You have connected the fuel pump wire to the relay-- it does not attach there. Out of the harness in the car there is a thick red power wire -- this is switched power from the ignition. This goes into the single end of the "wye" connector (the plastic block that is shaped like letter Y) and out of the other end, one wire goes to the LOWER ballast resistor terminal, and the other is the power wire for the fuel pump. See annotated factory photo.
My STRONG suggestion is to call www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com and get some EXACT matching wire for the factory colors in the harness-- this will make your own future diagnosis simpler, and maybe I will have retired!
Hope this helps!
