    Rebuilding a 69 ignition switch

Has anyone ever rebuilt or recondition a 1969 non locking ignition switch like the one highlighted below?
I know there are replacement Bosch and NOS switches but I wanted to see if I can recondition my original switch that came with the car. The issue I'm having is in the crank state - sometimes I need to giggle the key slowly to gain contact and other times it just works fine.

How complex is it? Am I crazy to rebuild and should just buy a replacement?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks - Edric

I have the same problem with my 69 ignition switch. Have thought of doing a rebuild but other projects are in the way. I bought another ignition switch I may have it rekeyed & used it as I rebuild the original one. You may try this.

Thanks 902/16. Can you repost the link. I'm getting a 404. Thanks.

Btw. Did you buy an NOS replacement? If so where?

The "crank" position takes the most abuse. If you're unable to repair or replace the NLA switch or want to extend the life of the current ignition switch, here's an alternative path to start your car. Use the factory switch as an ON-OFF switch, then install a remote momentary switch to crank the engine.
