Seat Belts found in my car- ex South Africa

    Hello,

Maybe some South African contacts can help with this one?

I have found in my 69t front seat belts that are not original, they have been replaced with a set that look
Very old and have Cape Town printed on label. My question is would the originals have been swapped because of the South African safety regulations. Car was sold new in 69 to UK but shipped to SA and spent all of its life up until 13 years ago.

Cannot understand why anyone would swap a set that are the same style of seatbelt, would this indicate the car spent time in Cape Town?

    Thanks for your help,

    Lee

1969 was in the early days of seatbelts.

    I found this on Wikipedia:

In the UK, a requirement for anchorage points was introduced in 1965 , followed by the requirement in 1968 to fit three-point belts in the front outboard positions on all new cars and all existing cars back to 1965, and by the requirement in South Australia to fit belts (two- or three-point) to the front outboard positions, in all new cars.

Is it possible your car didn't have seat belts while it was in Great Britain? Maybe it would have been up to the British dealer to install them. If so, the dealer might not have bothered on a car being exported.

My '65 911 did come with seat belt mounts.

    Thanks Jim,

May be worth researching if the car spent time in Cape area?
