Thread: 7R wheel-to-spring plate clearance

    7R wheel-to-spring plate clearance

So I might be working on some rear suspension upgrade bits, and I need to know whether stuff will hit the tire or not. So, those of you running 7R wheels without spacers can you please post a picture and give a rough measurement of how much clearance there is between your spring plate and tire?

I would like to make this suspension upgrade open to those running narrow body cars with 7R wheels since that will be the toughest fitment issue.

    Thanks in advance.

    These are16x8's

PS: Camber won't be an issue with this suspension in case you are only running 7Rs because you can't tuck other offsets into the fenders using camber.

I thought everyone was running spacers with the 7R wheels, unless running a ton of negative camber. Harvey builds a lot of 7R wheels with a corrected offset. There's several threads on this issue here. I run 7" steelies on the rear of my SWB, but I customized the offset as well, so I didn't have to run spacers or worry about rubbing. The tires are 205/60/15.

OK, the forum doesn't like to search for a 2 character term.

So what would be the minimum tire to spring plate clearance out there? An inch? Half an inch? I figured anyone running 7" wheels on a narrow body would be the ones to ask. Can you get that measurement for your car?

The 7" steelies pictured were re-rimmed with a 34 mm offset. 7R Fuchs have a 49 mm offset. I run 2 1/4 negative camber on the rear. Clearance to the tightest point (spring plate bolt) on the inside is 7/16". The outside fender lip (they are not trimmed) clearance is 3/4". Both sides are not identical, but close. Use "Offset" as your search word and several threads should pop up. Hope this helps.

I'm running the same size tire, 205/60/15 on the front, only the wheels are 6" wide.

Max, you will need a spacer with real 7Rs. How much depends on the car and tire, and whether they are being fit to the front or rear:

I ran R 7's front and back 205/60/15 with factory 7mm spacers and factory 10mm longer studs. I was able to run front shock dust covers. Gled

Max, I'm just now installing a set of Harvey's 15 x 7's. I don't have the tires yet but with the wheels installed (no spacers) on the rear for checking clearances, this is a narrow body 72, the lower spring plate bolt has a clearance of 7.85mm from the wheel lip. With a good set of 205/60's you would need spacers. I will be running 930 brakes and 10mm spacers so I shouldn't have a problem. Shouldn't is the key word.
