73S - Need Help from NY, MA and Italian Friends

Hi everyone. I am working on a project on a 73S s/n 9113301140. According to the COA, this was originally a black paint, beign/tan vinyl interior car and it was configured for Italian delivery; no sunroof. But there are some details missing and as we got the car it had wiring for a rear wiper, electric windows (looked aftermarket), stainless skirt, and an aluminum decklid (but not center panel). The car had been redone at one point and had a red leather interior and it may have been that some of these other options were added as well.

Based on some of the stickers on the windows and other info from the title, I believe this car may have spent some of its life in Italy, then NY State, and then Boston (maybe 2001-12), MA before this latest purchase so I was hoping some of our Italian, NY, or MA friends might be able to help with how the car may have been configured in earlier times and whether these options were present. Also any possible owners who we might be able to contact for history would be wonderful.

Here are some pictures of the window stickers and interior in case they would help in this request and one of the serial number plate for Dave P. Thanks for any help or leads you can provide!

Hi Jim, according to my records, your car had some problems to alternators around 2007 (http://www.iatn.net/techhelp/50/4491...-charging?sr=1).

Anyway, you should also ask for CoA in Italy too, so maybe you can do it from the US too. May we enjoy some more pics of your car? The other think I'd do is to contact Monti Car in Torino, they're still on business http://www.monticar.it/. If some of our fellows Italians on this forum live nearby they can pay a visit, otherwise I can try and call them on your behalf.

Guys, thank you for your posts.

Alan, the car had a flasher but it had been located in the knee pad on the drivers side corner, not in the left side mid dash. This is one of question areas; wiring looks to indicate this as an add on perhaps to federalize for US. Picture follows. There are some other details which suggest this was not a US car, including aftermarket VW seatbelts and the driver's recliner mechanism not having a seat back locking tab or release. There is also no "fasten seat belt" dash light and the side lights have the lighted markers behind the reflectors. I'll post of picture of the seat recliner later because it is something I have not seen before.

Biancaneve: Again thanks for advice and offer of help. I will contact the dealer as suggested by email and see what they have. The US COA was limited and did not contain data such as the date of delivery. Is there a contact other than Monti Car for the Italian CoA or would you expect they might have the as-delivered configuration? I will post some more pictures on the car but by the time I was called in disassembly was underway so there are no great beauty shots but it is very solid. I will post more as we proceed with the restoration.

Maybe federalized - front and rear parking lenses are no longer Italian - how about a picture of gauges and knobs and does it have an ID sticker in driver door pillar and vin number stamping affixed to driver side roof pillar ? side picture shows H1's or maybe H4's

Well, Porsche Italia after sales for sure, they still have the old archives of the former importer, but it is good practice to explicitly ask for what you want to see on the CoA, otherwise it is kept to the absolute minimum. Contact e-mail is omologazioni@porsche.it

Another small observation ... since it is a late 1973 the external mirror for the Italian market (where fitted) should be the small rectangular "1973" (afaik the very late had even model '74 rectangular).

Guys the car has the A pillar tag but no VIN sticker in the doorjamb. Since it was repainted however, I cannot be sure that it wasn't scraped off before. The car has H1s but again that may be a later upgrade. Knobs are hard plastic and do not have the rubberized switch covers of the US cars of that period. The mirrors do not necessarily appear stock as the driver's side door shows another hole drilled to accept the earlier style Durant mirror. The passenger side shows no extra holes which leads me to believe that the passenger mirror may have been tacked on later. Lenses have been on the car awhile as they appear to have some weathering and minor stress cracks but if they are 15-20 years old, that would be expected. All reasons I would like to talk to prior owners.

Biancaneve, thanks for the link. I will contact them and request more info.

If Italian/ROW it should have the plastic tank with space saver tire, pump or air bottle, probably the pump/compressor being a late one, also trombone front cooler and an 013 mfi pump.
