Interesting, I don't see the 6 slots on the outer inside where the chrome trim ring is fixed. How is the leather Porsche trim mounted?

press fit. It's a complete unit: metal backing plate, leather and 'trim ring' (which is more like a lid).

Me thinks this is '68 (and up?).

yep so it is.the hole chrome ring/leather/plate unit is gebördelt--dont know the correct english word for it(seamed??) and then it is glued to the button--i think this is the 2nd version of the puck..the first was slightly different ...it is possible to use the later chrome ring with the prongs(if you cut them --wich i would not do.)

My hockey puck horn button from a 912 wheel uses a press fit ring. The "leather" looks to be cardboard with a porsche logo. I assumed this was a cheaper version for a 912.

what year is your 912? or even better the vin and it likely that this puck is the one it left the factory with?

I seem to recall a discussion about these in the past, I think they were determined to be the replacements/aftermarket pucks that were sold at some point in the past, definitely not 912 specific, 68 was the last year the puck was used on 912, and every one I've seen has had the 6 holes and thick leather piece, same as 911
