I just bought a '71 911t sportomatic that needs a complete restoration. I was offered $10k for it. This is my first early porsche - is this a rare model?![]()

Worth more than that- even if it is a sporto.
Does it run/drive?
Does not run. Previous owner let it sit 4 years with plugs out. Body has a good amount of rust
If the Sporto gives you any trouble and can not get parts ( which is likely ), covert to a 5 speed and hot rod the engine for major fun. Chris

Good catch for 10K. I like sporto, I had a 2.2 T sporto and I had a road trip with of about 2500kms, and it was great to drive.
As said, Sporto parts are sometimes quite tough to source, but...there are few sporto lovrs in this world.

Rare and worth it! Good find in a targa!
I'm confused you just bought it, now someone has offered you 10K for it are you trying to flip it?
Its "rare" because few wanted them. They are also in short supply because many were converted to manual transmissions, because of repair/parts difficulty. They are sought after currently by small group who want a automatic for some reason. I wouldn't mind having one as a touring car, not so much as my only car. For most the Sportomatic is a deal killer, perhaps thats why you were only offered 10k for it. You should hold out for someone who is looking for a "Sporto".

Can you clarify 'a good amount of rust'? Pics? Thanks
Does it have original motor? What was the original color?

looks like a nice car, a twin to my 70 Sporto, if you can sort it out it is a blast to drive. I would try to keep it Sportomatic if possible. There are a few members here and on Pelican that have extensive experience with these so you can certainly get support and help with getting it whole again...plus many have been hoarding/preserving the used parts so you are not up the creek should you need parts.
