WOW!!!
I am surprised...
I've been told by folks in the business that, that particular car, when done right, is one of the most challenging post-war restorations there is....... In total, a whole lot of money..... or, of course, keep it just the way it is.....![]()

Great discussion. Obviously depends on the car, provenance.
If a car is "presentable" (meaning the paint isn't falling off and the seats don't crunch when sat in) is there even a debate here?
It seems to me that low mileage, original examples of anything are the Holy Grail.
Guess I should have left the mouse pee and poop in my car....oh wait, that is only patina on a multi-million dollar car. On a run of the mill 911 it is just a run down, neglected car.
From all accounts the Gullwing can't be just cleaned up and driven. It needs a lot of work to be driveable...if that is the goal. Work = $$$.

I prefer it when nobodys looking.
No big surprise. Over the past year restored cars have been a least 20% below original cars. Same thing in furniture and bikes. It's the old adage that "Restoration is destruction." Only the really ugly basket cases will be restored in the future. On the other hand I know of several high end shops that will create an "original" car for you. They actually create the patina. It's even more expensive than a shiny restoration.
