Offered Complete with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and Kardex, Solid, First-Year Example of the Iconic Short-Wheelbase 911S, Purchased New by 1931 Mille Miglia-Winning Riding Mechanic/Co-Driver, Wilhelm Sebastian.

Numbered 306058S, this early-production 1967 Porsche 911S was completed on September 29, 1966, and it is one of the 1,818 Porsche 911s built for the 1967 model year. Factory-finished in Irish Green complemented by Brown Leatherette seats with distinctive Pepita-pattern cloth inserts, it was originally equipped with options including a radio antenna, loudspeaker, noise suppression for the radio, and a set of Dunlop tires. The car was ordered new from Porsche dealer Islinger in Mannheim, Germany, which remains in operation and specializes in Porsche today.

This 911S was first sold on October 3, 1966, to none other than Wilhelm Sebastian, the former Mercedes-Benz ‘works’ team member and riding mechanic/co-driver for Rudolf Caracciola, who drove Mercedes’ SSKL racing car to victory in the 1931 Mille Miglia. Of further note, Caracciola’s victory was important, marking the first time a non-Italian driver won the dangerous and punishing race. Caracciola and Sebastian also set a new average speed record in the process. Subsequently, Herr Sebastian served as the technical racing manager at Auto Union, one of prewar Germany’s famed Grand Prix racing teams. Records list this 911S as the subject of three early warranty claims, the first prior to initial delivery on September 11, 1966, the second on January 19, 1967, and the third on May 6, 1967, with mileage recorded at 16,041 kilometres.

Eventually, 306058S made its way to the United States and sunny California, where it remained unrestored and resided for some 25 years in the care of the prior owner. Following acquisition by the consignor, a collector of landmark German sports cars, the 911S has been cosmetically restored and mechanically reviewed. As now offered, 306058S remains very solid and it retains the all-original sheet metal and matching-numbers mechanicals. A sunroof provides an added open dimension during spirited drives. Offered complete with a corresponding Certificate of Authenticity and Kardex issued by Porsche, this exceptional early 911S simply “ticks all the boxes” for an astute early short-wheelbase 911 purchase in the top factory-available specification of the era.

Looks like a reasonably nice car to me. Interesting color combination. A few things seem off (tachometer, coil, etc.) and the sunroof was apparently added (although that isn't expressly stated).

Some interesting parallels with my 67S:

1. Mine was birthed on 9/23/66 and has engine number 960377 and transmission 103381 (per Kardex). My engine and trans are exactly one number earlier.
2. Mine was originally sand beige on beige (I love that combo) but it is currently wearing irish green with a light brown interior.

Seems like my car and this one are very close relatives.

Might be or the pavement maybe uneven where they photographed the car; the rear sits funny on either side depending on the position of the car/photo angle.
