Any thoughts on a smaller, but period correct steering wheel update for a '70 911 S coupe. Clearly, turn signals must work properly.Preference would be for a factory (obtainable) wheel, but all others considered.
Many thanks in advance.

Momo Prototipo's are very popular period correct upgrades.
Buy a 914 wheel. Looks the same, except it is 380mm vs. 400mm. Leather wrap it and no one will be any wiser except you. I have one that I have been thinking about doing the same thing with.
I have a leather wrapped 914 steering wheel which is a very nice improvement over the standard wheel. The fake leather foam types are already thicker to start with, and the leather wrap adds to that.
On my other car I just installed a Momo Monza, also very nice but feels much more fragile than the 914 wheel.
Doesn't it need to be a 914-6 wheel to fit a 911?
I have a regular 914 wheel at home. It looks like it will fit. I can give it a try.
Normal 914 wheels will fit.
A guy I know bought a 914 wheel to replace some after market wheel that was in his 71 911T. He said it would not fit due to a difference in splines. Perhaps he was mistaken.
I will recalibrate my "facts".
There is a big myth about 914-4 steering wheels having a different spline arrangement than 914-6 or 911 steering wheels. Not so. They are identical and fit perfectly. The only thing you'll have to do is relocate the turn signal cancellation ring on the back of the 914 steering wheel. When you pull your 911 wheel off note the position of the turn signal cancellation ring and mount it (or the one on the 914 wheel) in the same position on the back of the 914 wheel. (It may require drilling a hole in the cancellation ring to position it properly...5 minute job). This steering wheel, covered in leather is the "Sport Steering wheel" offered as an option on 911's.
There we have it folks!
