Engine:Chassis matcher - online database.
I have been using the forum a lot recently and had a lot of help from forum members, so I offer to put something back.
I keep an eye on the 'Lost and Found' thread, looking for a specific engine and note it's 600 replies long.
Also aware that there is a recent post here on how to Google search this forum for an item, such as an engine number.
I was going to suggest, as an experiment, an online searchable database, searchable openly by anyone who is a member of the forum, looking for an engine or transmision for their chassis. Anyone with an engine in their car that doesn't match the car, could email me details of chassis no, engine (or case) serial no and trans serial no. I will enter these on to an online database that I will set up with open member access. However the details of the owner (phone number only) will only be made available, after payment of a small fee to an Early 911S Registry charity of choice. Engines and tran's on their own, that are for sale, would be detailed as such, this would provide a lead to where the various parts had gone if they were bought by someone but not for a matching chassis and the correct chassis owner started looking in the future. We would build in some protection to prevent 'Flippers' from abusing the system ie we would need some sort of proof of ownership of the chassis number first.
This is just a thought at this stage, comments ?
