rebuild/replace door stays
Hi:
Hope someone can assist with this.
I have a great 1970 911S. The doors make clicking sounds when opening and closing. I ordered two new door stays from Pelican Parts. Door panels were taken off and I was ready to get started. Here are the issues:
1) I cannot get the pin out of the mount area at the door jam. This is the single pin that hols the stay into the door jam. I removed the fastener that was fould at the bottom of the pin. I tried to tap it from the bottom up, used a screwdriver by wedging it at the top and between the pin head and the mount and so on. Must be careful this car is concours and I do not want to chip the paint. ANY THOUGHTS WOUL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
2) The Pelican Parts stay is completely different than the ones on the car. The Pelican part does not have the springs and rollers that are used on those on the car. I also have a factory 914-6 and I did this job a few weks ago. I replaced or re-built the 914-6 door stays by buying a kit (auto atlanta) that had new rollers and springs. The result after greasing them is a perfect opening and closing door, without all the creaking. My question her is should I re-build those that are on the car by again using the Auti Atlanta spring and roller kit or the new ones from Pelican.
3) My final question is does anyone know what was the correct door stay when it left the factory in 1970? This would help me decide as I want to keep all parts true to the date of manufacture.
Thank you for the assistance.
John
