I am looking at a car that the owner tells me is a 1966 911. The VIN# 30433 (this is what he told me and also what appears on the photo) makes no sense. Also the paint code appears to be 6206. I might be an idiot but looking at the Red Book I can not find any info on the car. I will try to post the up close photo that was taken for me.

The last number prob didn't stamp deep enough to show through the paint. Check the two numbers in the front trunk.

Hello 911Kraut,
from the spacing and the fonts on the stamping you are looking at a #3 0 4 3 3 X - that was special ordered with a 1962 Silver Metallic color.
Have the seller look or photo the stamped numbers next to the gas tank to verify it matches and will confirm that last digit.
After you buy the car take a q-tip and some lacquer thinner and swab the black plate till just the stamping is visible to reveal that lightly stamped digit.
It is one of 10 digits so your pretty close. Remove the lower dash black vinyl knee guard for a second serial number location, it is stamped below the ashtray.
(That repaint was a bit Earl Shieb, sure hope it doesn't have a lot of rust).
