He calls it a 911R tachometer. I thought the Rs had '68 style gauges which would be white on black instead of green on black.
The case is dated 12.66, there would have been a blue QC stamp dated later than that on the back, but it was probably blasted off when the gauge was restored. That means it's a 1967 model year gauge.
The R was a 68, black and white face with a red needle.
The 4 prototype 911R were 1967 models 30xxxx VINs
I think these green face 10K tachs are often available for sale on German Ebay.
I don't believe that a tach with this face was ever used by the factory but many have been made up by the VDO guage rebuilders in the U.S. and Germany.
Raj,
I would love to see a photo of a 911R tach with green letters. I'm not suggesting for a moment that you're wrong, just that I've never seen one.
Any idea how much 10k conversion (and MSD + twin plug) cost e.g. in North Hollywood Speedometer currently? (just some ballbark figure)
And it would be nice to see if any 911R (prototypes) used green faced meters, personally I like them much more than MY68 meters. :) I will be using my original 67' green faced meters in my 911R-"prototype re-creation" (based on 1967 911), although it will (at least on my mind) kind of what one of 911R prototypes could have been, so not copy of anything existing to allow me to be bit creative. :D
