On the red interiors I've seen, some of the surfaces are black: door tops, armrests, dash. These are photos of a 1968 912 Targa in the best color combination ever: Slate Grey with a red interior.

Peter Morgan's book ORIGINAL PORSCHE 911 has some photos of a Slate Grey right-hand-drive '65 coupé with the same red and black interior (it has most of the '65 interior features but has a rubber shift boot). The '65 coupé in Peter Morgan's book has salt-and-pepper velour carpets,
