68 911 Fuel Pump Questions
My decade long rebuild of my 68 911 Sporto is almost over. The engine and carbs have been completely rebuilt and the transmission is being checked, new brake and fuel lines, new wheel bearings front and back, body work 90% complete, front and rear suspensions reworked, instruments cleaned and calibrated, etc, paint in about 2 months. BUT, I've read so many posts on fuel pumps that now I'm confused. The box-of-parts from the PO contained 2 Hardis and one Pierburg. The PO says the Hardis don't work and he never go around to trying the Pierburg.
I've read articles that the pump should be moved to the front, I've also read articles that say to leave it where the factory put it. Other articles say to be sure to add a return line to the tank but other articles say the Hardis don't need a return line or a regulator.
I would prefer using a Hardi because, so far, the car is completely original and the electrical panel in the engine room has the Hardi mounting bracket.
So, I thought I would just put the question out and see what I can learn from the responses. I'll absorb all responses and come up with a plan.
Thanks in advance.
