Recommendations on Reproduction RS Door Panels

I'm looking to install a set of leather RS style door panels in a '78SC coupe.

What are the recommendations for best fitting and quality?

Anyone with experience with the AppBiz RS (early style) door panels? How is the fit and leather quality? They seem to be the supplier to both Pelican and Performance Products.

I got mine from AppBiz. Fir was excellent, but I used my own vinyl which I had left over from doing the rear seats. So I can't attest to the quality of their coverings.

Only thing I wish I had known, was the location of the door leather strap. I put the end about 2 inches too high.

In rereading your post, I noticed you asked about the leather quality. If you redo the rear of your car, you might just want to source the leather from the same place so everything matches.

we sell and use AppBiz' products. Very happy with them.
Recommended that when you get the leather door panel kit, ask for the window switch surrounds (stainless, and easier to install than removing from your old panels) and edge welting . The panels do not come with welting and this finishes off the panel install nicely. Look at your oem panels to see what i am talking about.
Make sure you glue down plastic sheet between the panel and the door shell. This works as a moisture barrier and reduces chance of panel warp. Tip: carefully open the large heavy weight shipping bag the panels come in, cut it open so you have two large pieces, then trace the outline of the panels on them . These make excellent moisture barriers

The door pulls from the 73 RS/ R are flimsy Fiat 600 pieces- used to save weight. Not very robust , so we take the long pull strap supplied with the panels and make a finger loop at the end where mounted near center. This leaves the original plastic pulls for decoration and you have a strong place to close the door from

Lastly you may want to add a few more mounting screws around the perimeter to keep the panels flat on the door

Dave, thanks very much for the comments and tips. I was trying to figure out the welting question, didn't realize they sold it also.

Do you also know of a source for the door top welting used with the RS panels when the door panel cap (the part that runs along the top that the door lock sticks through) is not used? It looks to me like the same welting used around the rear vent windows on '69-73 cars.

I think he is refering to the edging on your OEM doors, it is the plastic edging that you can see at the front and back of your door panels.
