64-65 Fuel Tank Finish
Hi Guys,
I'm doing some pretty heavy detailing work at the moment. If you look on page 21 in the Morgan book you can see that my fuel tank is painted a sort of greyish to duck egg blue, which i'm sure is incorrect. The underneath has the wrinkly stone chip coating that has been painted black at some point. Looking at the workshop manual (in black and white) the bottom should also be a light colour.
I've read a posts about using Wurth SKS in grey on a 1970 tank, is it the same. Should it be smooth on the top side? Can someone help out with some paint codes etc?
All help appreciated!
Cheers
David

David,
The early cars have a light grey, which changed to black probably in early '66, I can't nail the exact point right now. Painting yours the '71 "schutz" color would definitely be incorrect. If you go to Darryl's web site, you can see a pretty good picture of the correct color which would be right for your car.

Good luck!

Hi David,
This tank is from a '65 (301994). The black schultz looks to have been sprayed (on and from the bottom) after the tank was installed and was applied over the light/med. gray paint. The balance of the tank looks to be paint over the steel....no texture. Also seems to have had a glue down pad just under the spare tire area.
Best of luck!
