What is the correct fuel tank color for a 1968 911T Karmann built and a few other Q’s

I am finally working on the assembly of my 1968 911T hard window Targa.
7 yrs into this restoration. The Glasurit singe stage Polo Red paint was just shot a month ago.

I’m trying to make it as original as possible. I need to sell the car to cover my wife’s Cancer Bills and treatments (she is cancer free now and recovering) .

It’s a 5/68 Build if that makes a difference .
‘68 is a goofy year with some 1 year only parts and oddities.


What color should the fuel tank be?
I did a lot of searches and come of with no definitive answer of black or grey.
Some posts alluded that is it’s a Karmann built car like my 911T that is could be different from a 911S for example?

Are the brake backing plates front and rear plated yellow zinc or black?

Are the top strut mounting bolts and retainers yellow zinc? Or clear zinc?

And is that strut top mounting washer and nut clear zinc? Or yellow zinc?

The good news is that your wife is recovering. The bad is that you will have to sell such a beautiful car. I have a December 1967 Porsche built 911L Targa. So I hope that some one that has knowledge of the Karmann will chime in. In case it helps... my findings are that the tank would be a mix half and half of sks grey and sks black. Backing plates black, strut tower mounting hardware yellow zinc. I am not sure about the top washer and nut (they get replaced with shocks often) my guess would be clear zinc. best of luck... bob

My 68 had: the brace that went between the top bolts (not sure what it is called) mounting bolts, washer and nut were all yellow zinc.

I never knew that Karmann built any Targas. I thought that Karmann cars are all coupes.

maybe it is the lighting , but my original 1968 tank is a little darker. also my original 1966
i think the long wheel base cars had that lighter color
