I have only found someone sending a car and sent it in pieces in the trunk as parts
You need to find a shipping company that consolodates freight. Typically they will put 4-5 cars in a 40ft high top container and pack parts into the spare space. The ones we use from US to NZ charge by per cubic/m or ton whichever is greater plust the port/customs/clearance and handling fee. The fees are often as much as the freight. The handling fees are a one off. The freight cumulataive. An engine size package from Los Angeles to Auckland would cost us about $4-500. If we added a second engine only about $200 more.... So if whoever you are sending to wants a load of parts from Stoddards/Sierra Madre Tire Rack etc then send it along with the motor - the additional freight cost is negligable.
I do not know the port fees into Europe but the agent can quote these and advise if any ports are cheaper. Also there may be sales tax into some locations.
Having a good agent at each end is important and makes the process very easy.
