Help with 911E offeing price

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1969 911E Targa from a neighbor. He's had the car for over 20 years, it hasn't been driven since 1999, was started 6-7 years ago and run. original color is light Ivory, non original 3.0 motor, original 901 transmission, decent standard 911 black vinyl interior, good targa top, 5 date matched Fuchs. I can see some rust bubbling around the bottom of the rear window on both sides, some rust at B pillar (under door/Targa seal) good front pans, everything else looks original. I'm assuming everything is going to need to be done but overall it's not a bad looking car. A very competent local Porsche mechanic looked at it (did not try to get it running yet) and also concurred that it's a good restoration candidate. I've read through everything here, Ebay, PP, etc. and there's a huge!!! range. I want to be fair with my neighbor and he has no idea.... anyone care to offer a non-snarky ;) opinion? I'm curious to see if there's a consensus on this project car.

Gonna be hard without some closeup pix. The phrase "some bubbling" is going to put it on the "huge range" category. Non original motor lowers the value as well. Good luck with it.

I looked at a tangerine '70 T Coupe about 15 months ago with rust bubbling in the lower aspect of the doors and near B pillar but very clean underneath including front pans, original engine zenith carbs and 901 gearbox with non sport black seats. Car was also in non running condition and had not been driven in 15 years. I could have had that car for 23k but passed. So that should give you a rough guide. Now fast forward 15 months and prices have indeed gone up but given the fact that the car is not numbers matching it would not be too far over 20 to 25k but who knows. I see ads for WTB project long hoods all the time so someone may still buy it for over market price.

The key thing that makes an E an E is the engine. And that's gone missing from this car. The Internet may help you track it down, and if you are very very lucky, that would add a lot of value. Right now, I agree with w00t that low $20s is the range.

Having said that, a 69 with a 3.0 is going to be a fun car.

Tough to put a value on this without knowing extent of rust. If it were me I'd think about how much I pay for car if it were running and driving and subtract cost of repairs to make a good driver. I also see a market that appears to be softening considerably for less than exceptional cars, that would play into my decision as well.

Rust is like A/C not blowing cold needs a recharge - code for every part of the A/C system has a leak and needs new parts = $5,000 repair bill to get the A/C working - rust equals needs $20grand in body work and paint - just saying
