74 CIS engine unique???
Greetings,
I know that this year engine may be slightly outside of the early S focus, but I recently bought a very nice 1974 2.7 CIS engine. My intent is to rebuild it into a great 911 street rod engine...............but as I am dis-assembling this 2.7, I am becoming aware that some parts may be one-year only parts...........was the 74 engine unique? I'm looking into it, but is there anyone out there that knows more about this and can provide an explanation/details?
regards,
Al
PS: My current plan is to build this as follows:
9.5:1 JE pistons
S-cams
Weber 40-IDAs
headers
sport muffler
My plan is to sell off the stock parts to offset the build costs....and then sell the rebuilt hotrod motor to finance my next 3.2 project, but if someone needs this engine for their 74 resto ......please contact me.note; the exterior is oily/dirty, but I have the 1,2,3 side pretty much apart and the internals, so far, are in excellent shape...cam and rockers are very nice................ Nikasil cylinders (looks great and I've inspected/measured #1 so far and it is well within spec), time-certed steel studs. So far, so good.

oh vey...
Not trying to be a poop but it sure seems like everyone these days wants to believe that they've got something "special". Nothing extraordinary about a '74 CIS engine.
After the sale of your unwanted parts you should have enough to purchase 3 of your pistons.
Good luck with the project; should be a fun little motor.

The CIS system is unique with a throttle position device also regulating the control pressure for the warm up regulator .

Not unique. '73 was first 7R mag case. The throttle position regulator started on the '73.5 and was used till '75. The '73.5 was unique with 6 month only parts like the first whirl pot fuel tank with full size spare. Oil tank was also 6 month only. In '74 - '77 the injector was moved from the head to the intake runner, which was changed from steel to aluminum. They did offer an S engine with a new cam in '74 on.

As I said , 74 is unique , the only year to have aluminum intake runners and throttle position regulator .
