What am I missing here?

Was this just a smoking deal that everone missed or does something seem off? Found it under completed listings. I hope one of you picked it up if legit.

Must be this...."On Dec-01-14 at 10:15:37 PST, seller added the following information:
The VIN sticker has some of the numbers defaced. The photo did not get loaded I can send photo on request."

Sounds stolen but then again the Alabama no title before 1974 thing if true still seems ok if not stolen and one can take VIN off of the other 3 spots. Is this really an S? Something just seems off.

In CA they only need two places for the VIN verification. So, there are 3 other spots where the VIN is no? Two more in hood and 1 under radio in dash. But that is what must have scared everyone off. I just looked again, I see what you are saying, the vin plate is missing and the other vin is cut out. Yeah, very shady, he has no paperwork. So looks like selling a stolen vehicle on Ebay, obvoiusly not the first time that happened. I have zero affiliation with it, hope nobody got burned but I just thought very inexpensive since there are still other places to get the VIN and register it. Especially if the motor was matching and an S. I guess it would make a fine track car if they can verify it is not stolen.

Yes --- sorta

..1) an alu tag riveted to the pass-side of the front latch panel
..2) on US-market cars --- a metal tag on the driver's side A-pillar
..3) on US-market cars, again --- a decal below the driver's side latch post

However, the only VIN 'stamped' into a 911 body shell . . . . is the one that's been cut-out here

There is another number 'stamped' into the body, in two places --- the so-called 'secret number.' It can be found in the dash face, behind the pass-side knee pad, and on the edge of the trans-tunnel access, in the rear pass-compartment. This same number can also be found hand-drawn on the top of the driver's side dash binnacle, underneath the dash pad . . . but is visible only when the pad is removed. This is NOT a VIN, but apparently some kind of control number used by Porsche internally. The production number will appear only in Porsche's records, and would be used by them to identity any car

No. Engine number de-codes as a '73 T --- but could still be original MFI . . . never know?

Yeah......I had to do a double take when I saw that it sold for $30,000.00. As we all know, if it sounds too good to be true there is usually a problem. I do feel like whomever bought that will have a lot of explaining to do even if it not a stolen car.... Is anyone missing a silver targa? LOL...Thanks for all the explanations I always learn something but I am seriously surprised that Ebay would even allow the "seller" to list this car.....It is screaming scam and stolen........ Not my problem though.....
