Horn: Save or replace ?

Happy new year guys !

I've been tracking down my horn malfunction from button (fixed), relay (fine), to the horn itself (not looking good).

It's one of those snail like jobs :

I am no electrical genius but it seems to me the coil fried itself at some point. it's got that black band all around it, and the yellow wire next to it seems to have been pretty hot...

Assuming I am correct, what is the best path at this point for authenticity ? The car is a 68 with a mid 67 build date. Does someone repair those ? Can I replace the coil with another coil from another application ?

Failing that I see 356-style horns for $40 or so, I don't think I'd lose sleep if I used one of those, but only if there aren't more proper solutions... Like cannibalizing one for its coil or something like that ?? Thanks !

I had the same problem on my 68 911l Greg.

Mine was built around September 1967 and had the 356 style ones, so I simply logged onto stoddards or Sierra madre and had them delivered to me (in Sydney australia) within 7 days.

I now have working horns for the first time in a long while
