Is this an early version of the hockey puck horn button? Original leather horn pad with foam on a steel backing, not the tan/brown foam backing you normally see. It is pressed into the housing like a 356A horn button, not held in place by tabs. there are no slots in the housing for tabs either, but it has differen reinforcements than any other puck i have. Any input welcome, thank you.

Doesnt every puck fit a 912? Is this a different batch?
about one out of every 20 or so pucks I see is that type. The center ring part is interchangeable with the other type in that it fits in the type with the six holes for the centers with prongs, but the base of the puck is slightly larger than the common type. Seen as few other threads about these over the years, mostly speculating these may have been early aftermarket/factory replacement pucks
Thank you for the feedback. I compared it to 2 original pucks i have and you are right, the bezel is the same diameter as the tabbed type but it will not fit in a 'tabbed' base, due to the recessed part being shallower. The puck base is exactly the same diameter as the slotted one. There is no tstamp on either one of them.
Is it possible this could be the first iteration of the puck and then they changed to tabs to improve the way the leather is held in? The way this is set up with the metal backing is almost certainly more expensive to manufacture than the tabbed version.
That's a pretty good theory, wonder if there is someone with a really early original car that could confirm? definitely a short run of this style whatever the reasonQuote:
