Car audio in LWB

Never mentioned that I had been a car audio guy mid 90-2006.
Due to the cabin and possible locations of the speakers in the old Elfer I always used other cars to win German and European IASCA SQ championships.
Well what should I say. I lowered my requirements but I was never happy with the result of any of the car audio installations in a LWB. So I removed all such things like speaker in door, parcel shelf, underdash or kickpanels when I bought a new car by end of the first day. So most of my cars have actually no radio at all or only a fake faceplate an antenna for met the CoA.
Last weekend my oldest son convinced me that he would be even happier on a long trip with one of our cars, when he can listen to his favorite radio play.
I grabbed a new dash speaker from Königs, that I bought years ago, from my attic and let the speaker run in overnight with some music, bold it to the original place in the dash and connected the speaker to a Becker Europa. My son was happy, I was happy that my son was happy. But the sound was……

Speaking to Mr. Königs he told me that I should better use the Blaupunkt Frankfurt, because he has optimized or chosen this speaker to work with this radio.

Turned the Frankfurt on. And the sound turned me on.

This speaker works perfect in the original speaker location with the Frankfurt

Seriuosly? How would you "tweak" a speaker so it's optimized for a specific radio?
If the coil is fitting perfectly for the output of the Frankfurt, ok. But this would let me assume your other radio's output being either too weak or too strong...

Power is nothing without control. Rockford commercial mid 90th.
Might be damping factor or tonal accuracy of the amp that might handle the impedance curve of the speaker better than the other radio.

I haven't really given "car HiFi" much thought yet, but imagined kick-panels in the legroom area being the way to go. Easy to de-install and no need to cut holes.
Still won't be high-end I guess, but then again: our 911s already do have a (beware, pun intended) "high-end" that sounds second to none, right?

A 911 has pathetic sound insulation. Ear buds are the way to go.

I traveled this dead end road in the early 80's with Nakamichi equipment and ADS speakers all around.
It was a complete waste of money. Had a lot of sonic power but I had better stuff in the living room which it could never match.
How do you "image" or create a "soundstage" in a car?:rolleyes:

Best setup I ever heard was in a newer Rolls Royce Phantom. Nice to drive too for what that's worth. lol

when you think about it makes sense that some speakers would be more compatible with a specific radio than others
I bought a Becker Europa 11 stereo for my 914-6 several years ago but ran it through some MTX speakers from Illinois and an aerial which was one step up from a coathanger.
I thought the sound was worse than the previous Becker Grand Prix stereo in my 2.2 911 S.
Later I bought some speakers from Rainer Konigs advertised as specific to a 914.
between the speakers and a Hirschmann 4090L the sound is transformed
I visited Rainer while in Germany before the Essen show several years ago and found him to be very helpful - no connection just a satisfied client
mind you,I cant hear much after I turn the motor on ..... :D

Perhaps you could be a little more specific as to which speaker it is that works so well with the Blaupunkt Frankfurt.

Does anyone recall the components-setup for the center speaker that you used to see a few years back?

Not in response to Keith's question but this is how Blaupunkt used to recommend setting up speakers back in the early 70s. This extract is from a 1973 magazine stereo radiocassete recorder review of their then top of the range Bamberg. It is for a car with rear seats.

Option 422 Bamberg priced DM1150 was available for Porsche second week of 1973.

Dirk is hardly going win any international sound quality competitions with this setup but authentic advice from manufacturer back in that period. It might be of interest to some due to the presence in 911 of a single dash speaker already.

Not quite sure why....but I have got examples of most of the early speakers range from Blaupunkt early 70s catalogue and many of the head units used by Porsche from Blaupunkt European range of 1972/3 in my loft ...but have a blanking plate in my 911 dash presently as agree sound quality is poor.
