Since there are no correct repo sound pads for these years, I'm looking for a used part I can salvage. I expect the foam side of anything I find to be in bad shape, but I can replace that if the basket weave skin is still good.

Thanks for the lead, Cliff. I have to admit that the more I learn about this pad, the more confused I become. First, I'm assuming that the '72 pad is the same as the '73 that I need, which may not be correct. I've now seen 3 versions of the supposedly "correct" '72 pad: Foam with a basketweave skin, foam with a smooth skin, and the jute-like fiber with a grained skin that Nick is selling. I suppose that it was possible that more than one type was used during 72-73; I'm still hoping to find a good period photo to validate at least one of these configurations.

I don't know either. I just need one & the unit Alex is selling will certainly play the part. I have a nos in the bag with a Porsche label; I just have not verified its application. { not for sale.} This one has foam backing. Think it 'will' cover a few years. If any knows the application S, please chime in with phroof!!!.....cliff
Are you sure it doesnt have the fine basketweave texture? I had to look really closely to see the basketweave texture in mine. Original '72/'73 pads are hard to find on cars today because the foam turns to dust and the pad falls away. Nobody is making the original pad anymore so finding one is next to impossible. Ive offered up my original pad if anyone wants to remake them. I could use one as mine is useless now.Quote:

That pad is not what originally came on 72/73 cars but given that the original pads are not being made, that pad is probably the closest you're going to find. Why not use it?
my 72 is nowhere ready for this restoration piece.......nor the one I`m buying from Alex in his for sale offer........cliff
