Eric... better over here
GREAT title !!!! .... That REALLY says it....
If you have ANY internet presence the service, shipping, and feedback expectation for most is the same as Amazon...
We get that on our Registry home page 'Shop' orders.....
What most of them don't understand is Amazon doesn't have any idea WHAT their selling.... where it goes... and how it works !!!!
Good thread...
The perceived immediacy of internet commerce has spoiled us all.
and get off your phone, and my lawn...
As a minor seller on eBay, I've really had to adjust my practices on shipment expediency (as the buyer is favored over the seller in terms of feedback). I do have to plan out my listings before I post them so that when the item sells I am fully prepared to ship it. Takes a little practice but it's old hat now. I suggest a comment on your web site that indicates "I ship every Saturday" or "Tracking number provided three days after order is placed" just to be transparent and manage expectations. Your advantage, Erik, is that you sell items that few others are able to offer.
Here's how I would word your disclaimer:
"Because of the specialized nature and limited availability of the parts we sell please expect a minimum of 2-3 days before your item is shipped. If this isn't satisfactory we would suggest you buy the part somewhere else and find some help in the area of self control and patience."
I am constantly reminded (and reminding others) of the Heinz ketchup ad campaign:
