Tach removal on a 69
I've removed the steering wheel, screws holding the horn ring and screws holding the plastic steering column cover. I'm stumped as I don't want to break the cover. What am I missing? Do I need to remove the two small screws on the side of the cover?

The 69 should be held into the back with those knurled nuts. They aren't slip in (friction fit) like later cars. At least my 69 wasn't.

This is a 356 speedo, but should be the same kind of retention.

Correct. But the plastic column cover interferes with removal of the tach. I don't want to scratch the cover and or the tach.
I've already removed the other 4 gauges and the bracket behind the tach.

Ah - I see. I wish I could remember how the clamshell comes off!

remove the two small screws on the side of the clamshell you noted.
