as part of some scheduled interior work I'm considering upgrading the dash speaker. a period correct Frankfurt will provide the signal. what's available besides the OEM speaker for those who might listen to more than traffic reports or the ball game ? (remember those?)
if anyone has the mounting layout that would be welcome too.

I think I've tried everything out there and I still think the oem speaker sounds best with a stock radio.
I've gone back to the original Frankfurt with the OEM speaker and it sounds fine. Not nearly as good as the set-up that came with the car (alpine + four speakers in the doors), but the sacrifice is relatively small for the period correct look. If I really wanted to groove out, I'd get one or two of the high-end portable bluetooth speakers, stick them in the rear seats and just run them off the phone. Our cars are so beautifully noisy, I'm not certain it makes much sense to fight the engine with a "good" sound system.
For the Frankfurt, I would highly recommend a bluetooth adapter from "vintagecustomcars" on ebay, it works seamlessly so that I just turn on the radio, wait a second, and press play on spotify, etc. No fiddling with switches or additional adapters. Make certain you message him before buying one of his adapters as I thought I needed a seven pin, but only needed six - he was nice enough to offer a swap, but the postage back to eastern europe is nuts.
Can you still use the radio when using that bluetooth adapter? When you pause or turn off spotify, does the Frankfurt's radio automatically come back on?Quote:

With the bluetooth adapter, you need to turn off bluetooth on the phone to get the radio to work again. Not terribly difficult, but given you can listen to the radio on your phone, I have yet to not use the phone.

Same concept but there is a switch integrated with the adapter. It hides nicely, attached to the bottom of the radio with a bit of double-sided tape. When used with any Bluetooth receiver, position 1 of the switch is bluetooth and position 2 is your radio allowing you to easily switch between them without having to access your phone's bluetooth settings (which is both a PITA and dangerous when driving).

I looked at that too, but you have the switch, plus the bluetooth adapter. More cables and stuff that can go wrong. I'd rather just turn on the radio and have it connect automatically. I only have one local radio station, and it isn't particularly good!

No need to turn Bluetooth on/off. Just leave it on and the adapter automatically switches from the radio to the unit once you start streaming from your phone. Just pause the music on your phone and it automatically switches back to the radio after several seconds. I am using the factory dash speaker and it sounds great. If you use a single speaker just wire up one channel on the unit and set your phone to mono. I didn't cut a single factory wire or drill any holes, just installed it behind the passenger floorboard.
Most of the bluetooth adaptors have auto switch if you wire it correctly. I have one on my Koln and it switches between radio and bluetooth automatically and instantly.
