I bought some steel rod 4.5mm and spent 2-3 hours shaping .
When I got both sides to the proper bend the last push/hammer spot/fractured the steel.
This happened twice …
Also thought this was the high carbon steel which is suppose to bend ?
Happy to have someone give it a try and I will purchase

hmmmmmmmmmmm.... the factory weld looks like a big wad of bazooka bubble gum ...
cant you incorporate the welding of the part to the car with the welding of the crack?

Since it’s going to be painted anyway why don’t you just use a 4.5mm brass rod? Easily bent and should be strong enough to keep the vapor canister in place.
