How to modify the window lifter rail from coupe to targa?

When re-building my 72 targa, we discovered that the door window is mounted on a coupe window rail lifter.
We already discovered before that the door is not original, and could be that the door has been replaced with an used coupe version and that the mechanics were kept.
For the targa window rail, I am missing the plastic glider on the side. At a scrap yard, I found a newer version of the rail (the version as in the picture).
I am considering to try to mount the plastic glider of the newer version on my old coupe rail. Does this sound like a good plan? Anybody experience with that?

Will not work, different part
