Early 911 gas tank manufacturers

Does anyone know or have information on the manufacturers of the original 911/912 steel fuel tanks. I don't think I've ever seen part number, Porsche quality stampings or date codes on stripped tanks. I'm going to strip my original 62L tank and if there are markings that people have seen then I'd be curious where those were under the undercoating.. Would like to carefully document that for my car if possible. We've talked about the plastic tank makers but, I don't recall any threads on the steel tank makers.

With the sheer number of tanks needed over the years, I can't see Porsche doing the fab themselves.

Has anyone refinished their standard 62L tanks themselves?? I'm getting ready to dig into mine, strip the undercoating, dip etc..

I'm interested if anyone has seen part markings or Porsche quality marks once the undercoating was removed?? If so, would appreciate knowing the area and the type of marking. Would like to photo document markings if they exist as I've never seen a mention before.

Would also find it odd of all the parts that were PN marked, quality marked etc, that the gas tanks were not...

So, this got me thinking, quite a few early fabrications and I don't see Porsche producing all of these in house. Aside from the body itself, substantial list of bracket fabrications, panels, gas tanks, front control arms, cross members, trailing arms etc,,,,

Anyone know of any hard part manufacturers that Porsche used for all of these bits and bobs? Obviously castings were supplied by foundries most likely different companies than those that supplied the fabricated parts. I just don't recall any discussions on these topics.

On the 356registry I could find that Schmidt made the 80l tanks.

Btw I think the oil tanks came from the same company's.
