Which air cleaner housing to get for Webers?
i have a 1970 911T with a 2.2 with a set of Weber 40 IDA 3C carbs (stock jetting) and K&N rain hats. The car runs well and they sound great, but they go from exhilarating to ow-my-ears at WOT redline. I'm looking to lower engine noise at the source, so I'm thinking of going back to a stock air cleaner housing...I just can't figure out how to source one!
I would prefer metal, but would take plastic...What will work and what won't work? I think all of the tubes on my car are more or less vented to atmosphere at this point, so I'm not sure those connections are all that important.
Will MFI setups work with carbs? 914? Do all metal bases fit all metal housings (and is this the same for plastic)? Sometimes sellers are only selling one or the other. I'm just trying to figure out what to buy when staring at eBay/Pelican listings that may not have the best information...
Seems like I want to buy a metal housing with matching bases from a carbed 1969-1971 911 or 914...Plastic gets more complicated because they changed in '72. I'd love to broaden my options, as I'm not concerned with what is correct, so what will work well. I see prices from $400-4,000...
This is the most informative thread I could find, but I remain confused:
