The Rarest of the Rare?

I have inadvertently come across a pretty rare find- a full set of 911r rims. The 7x15 rears of course, but also the 911r 6x15 fronts (.03 part number), which may be even harder to find!

I am guessing that these really only have true value for 911r owners (the sixes really seem indistinguishable from regular .06 deep sixes). The 7x15's are very sought after but I think it would be foolish to split this matching set.

There has been some discussion in the past on weights of these rims, particularly the 6r's. I'll try & document this info for the board.

Are there any fellow owners of 6r rims out there?

OK, so what IS the difference? Part number? Finish?

Part number is different (ending in .03 rather than .06). The part numbers are ink stamped. I have read claims that the 6r wheel is lighter. Maybe I'll buy a regular deep six so I can weigh them side by side.

Be sure to use a UPS scale - a bath scale isn't accurate enough.

Ok, I'll take some photos to post and try & bring these down to UPS or the post office this weekend!

So, how were the 7Rs made? Were they stretched from deep 6s? Taken that one step farther in the forged manufacturing process? Hmmm? ;) I've heard it said. (just trying to start a fight :) )

my understanding is that they were spun from deep sixes which explains why the part numbers are scubbed off.

I was laughed at over on Pelican for suggesting just that. :rolleyes: I decided that it was not worth the breath (er, typing) to explore it with the adolescents.

Tobias Aichele says it was a 58 step process to create the Fuchs wheel. Pretty darn involved!
