my car ('71S) has nothing securing the spare tyre down. should there be something? ....and if so what and attached where?
also; with my car i recieved a jack. its black and of the crank and screw type. the jack pictured in the manual is the ratcheting lever type. which is original for my car and how would it be held down in the trunk?
any pictures would be appreciated.
Nothing holds the spare in place and nothing hold the jack in place and you should have the dangerous and unreliable ratchet style for a 71
I'd keep the screw jack. You can source a correct jack for conversation. One of the best screw jacks I had came from a Japanese import. However, I'm leaning toward one of these electric screw types that have come out on the market. What could be easier than that?
Also, not correct, but I used a cinch strap across the tire from one battery area to the other. There seems to be a couple of holes you can wiggle the hooks into. This allowed me to stack a towel and an auto tool kit in a formed plastic box on the tire and nothing moved around. By the time I placed a couple of quarts of oil and some other items in and around the tire, I had no rattles, yet I carried a lot of emergency stuff.
Amongst the inventory, a 12v air compressor, 12v test light and a spare CDI along with the factory tool kit that had a spare fan belt in it. With all that crap, I never had to use any of it.
Heck, I just jam a gym bag full of stuff under the hood (oil, belt, tools, towels, bologna sandwich, etc). :p
Much as bolagna has an enviable shelf life, I'd suggest some Twinkies for long-term storage in the emergency kit. :-)Quote:
