Installing 'glass rear bumper

Bought an MA Shaw 'glass one piece rear bumper. It's got the nice mounting horns on it but nothing for the side mounts. I reckon I gotta fab up some mounting brackets and 'glass them into the bumper of course, but does anyone have any pics of what they did to make a nice clean mount for the sides? Any advice and help is appreciated.

Also, does anyone have a 'glass engine lid they wanna sell off? I got two with ducktails but wanna loose the ductail theme. I have a steel lid and the R hinges at hand. Will gladly work out a trade or trade+money if anyone's interested. Also looking for a set of R style tail lights or a driver's side rear tail light housing in good condition (mine sucks).

Those FRP bumpers are so light they don't really need much for mounts on the side. You can just drill a hole in the flanges and thru-bolt them with some 6mm bolts, with an 1/8" aluminum tab to tie into the bumper support tube from the tub. I didn't glass the tab into the bumper. Car is out at the shop still, or I would attach pics.

For best results on the ones I have done it to cut off the stock glass mounts and use steels ones from factory bumpers. Use clamps and place the bumper in place with the rubber. Once it is clamped up mount your brackets and position them into place against the bumper and begin glassing. Once the fiberglass has cured you will have a bumper that fits like none other.

Solid advice there Herr Schmidt.....I was thinking about that but didn't wanna toast anything until I heard from the experts. The 'glass mounting horns are close but absolutely no cigar and require modification, especially on the oil tank side of things. :D

Just went thru this mounting process. The point about the lightness of these units is correct. My bumper is supported by the two stock struts on either side, two 5-6mm nuts bolts toward the front of the bumper and thru the lip on the bottom of the fender, and three smaller nuts and bolts (on each side) drilled thru the sheet metal under the tail light housing, fully visible after you pull the tail light. For strength as well as to avoid distorting the sheet metal, I also made small aluminum spacers, two for each side, which are fitted between the fender steel and the fiberglass, and then under the fiberglass. That's it, no other support. I completely ignored the glassed in metal supports intended to pick up the stock mounting points. Took several hours of fitting, but came out very nicely. After 6 months of operation, not a hint of a problem.
