I read a recent post that if you can remove the chrome, the hydrogen embrittlement issue goes away. Dunno how or why, but sounds like you could.
If as the ad says the "ink stampings" are still there, the wheels are polished, not chromed.
In that case, clear anodizing and painting would restore them.
You can chrome the faces only, leaving the back sides untouched. Would be hard, but is possible. If these are polished, they would be sweet.Quote:

Aluminum is one of most resistant metals to hydrogen embrittlement, I have heard that argument made about chrome fuchs not sure I'm buying it. Also forged Al is not very porous, which is one of reasons wheels are so damn strong. Am not a metalurgist but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.:)

Read too fast. Okay, they do look chromed to me, but I wouldn't put it past Al to do a polish job that looks like chrome.

I believe they can be stripped for $80/wheel by Al Reed. His feeling is the wheel does not damage. I do believe the finish choices after stripping is limited. It seems like a high price for chrome wheels. They normally trade at a discount due to the chrome.
If interested I do have a set of four 4.5x15's with the original finish, just average shape but cheaper than the ebay ones. Send an email if interested. Thanks.
