i recently found myself in hamburg and had time to visit this museum. if you get the chance, i really recommend it. a small but very cool collection.
my only gripe was the elva-porsche sports racer (one of my all time fave cars) was not on display the day i visited...
seconding Ryan's comments (... and not just because he's Australian !), i visited in October and it was well worth the effort. Exhibits well set out, and of high quality.
And Hamburg itself is worth a look around as well ...

I visited this summer, great disply of great cars etc.. They also had a "drivers" car setup with a big screen in front of it like driving an xbox3 from the cockpit, my older boy thought that was fun. The diorama display of the garage was very cool as well.
I have to say though that they were not the nicest people there who were in charge when I went. They at first wouldn't let my two boys (13 and 17) into the museum. They only relented when I told them that both boys have their own Porsche's and have started body work on them on their own. Certainly dampened my enthusiasm....
Erik - you're right - your comment rang a bell in my mind.
After some thought, i remembered ... on entry we were told not to "laugh out loud" during the tour. Strange !!
As my Dad would say, "Prussians".
