How to install rear sway bar bushings?

I just received four new rear sway bar bushings from Stoddard for my '73 911.
Unlike the worn-out OE bushings, the new ones don't have a split in them and are more solid. Is there a particular technique to installing them or do I have to cut them in the same place where the OE bushings have a split?

I purchased some OEM ones from Pelican, but they were black and had the slit. Can't see a reason to not just slice them open...
