blood orange vs. tangerine - 67 normal

Hello All...

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but I could not find it.

My understanding is that there is a difference between blood orange and tangerine, but I'm not sure what the difference is, or when it occurred in production. Dave P indicates that I have a tangerine w/ paint code 002L.

My follow up question is what paint source do I use to replicate the color for a respray?

Its the same color, with the same code. Its the English color name Tangerine(a citrus fruit) and the direct translation of the German color name Blut Orange(a citrus fruit, looks like a red orange).

1968/1969, code 1 6809, and code 2 P2002
1970/1972/1973, 018
1971, 2323

Code varied by some model years.

No, I don't think there is any difference between the color names, blood orange comes from blutorange, the German name, but in English we call it tangerine.
blutorange is color # 018 and code P2002 in 1967 with Lesonal brand paint, 6809 in 1968 & 1969, but possibly P2002 if Lesonal brand paint was used, then code 23xx (2323 or 2310) used for 1970 & 1971. Finally, from 1972 through 1983 code 018-x-y was used.

Now I am a bit confused since the Lesonal list shows P2002, but all others of that type were Rxxxx codes. I need a good photo of the badge to document what they actually stamped onto the badge. This is the only one I have, and it does not show P or R:

OK, just to throw something else out there.....:)

Our friend, Registry legal advisor, and PCA concourse judge Fred Stewart tells me that the original color, and matching the COA, on his '67S was 'special order' 1957 356 #5711 Orange.....

Fred also says that #5711 Orange was referred to as Blut Orange as well until 1969 when Tangerine and Blut Orange were referred to as one of the same......

BTW - Fred's '67S is now finished in beautiful Signal Orange......

We will never know BUT the 356 color looks a LOT darker than the "modern" blood orange or tanergine...IMHO...

You're absolutely right ... it is a completely different color...

Fred's point was #5711 was referred to as Blut Orange before the #018 Tangerine/Blut Orange reference.....

I believe blutorange is "blood orange" in English, although I suppose there could be a fruit by that name.
