playing w/ custom shift knobs..

I was wondering how many of you'all run a non oe shift knob?...

I dont think there are many attractive period correct aftermarket knobs out there...but it could be nice to change every now and then( like some of us do w/ st wheels) if there were some nice ones to use.....

we played w/ this one style......its made of corian....and currently will use close tolerances and an addtl set crew for a secure fit. It came out quite nice and period.......w/ a good feel. Its got some nice heft and is a bit over 3 " long...we didnt put a shift pattern on this one but we could've.

A relative who shall remain nameless had one like this on his Dual Gate Hurst shifter in a '68 GTO in 1968. I'll never forget how goofy it looked. :eek:

I use a Rennshift shifter (love it) but it seems that the alloy shaft is turned slightly (and I mean slightly) small so every stock knob/crush sleeve combo I used would come off only during stressful times... read track events..... :eek:

Probably a total of 4 different times..... :eek:

The last time was two track events ago and I happened to have a Rennshift large 'screw on' shift ball in my race bag. I had barrowed it from Chris Tallon
months earlier just in case. I put it on and haven't looked back...... :)

I got used to the feel in about 10 minutes....

This consists of a Allen stud screwed into the Rennshift shaft and the ball screwed onto the stud......... simple, I think the way Porsche should have done it...... :rolleyes:

Not stock..... but know worries... ;)

.......... I finally paid Chris for it a few weeks ago........ :D

They did ... sorta ... with the G-50. An allen bolt hidden under the shift pattern. ;)
