Porsche spec foglight questions...

Bought a set of the new Hella "tractor lights" to use as fogs on my 911T. I want to "convert" mine to the proper Porsche spec. I have read through all of the posts I could find on foglights but want to make sure I have the details correct:

The main differences between the current lights and the ones originally supplied are the lense, larger hole through the base for wires, and a thinner lense clip with slotted screw. The new ones also lack the terminal for the ground. I have the proper TN4 lenses, larger grommet, correct clip/screw, and terminal scavenged from dead 914 fogs. A few questions:

-With the black cutout grills, where does the wiring run through the grill? Is it through the same cutout that the light goes through or the next space up?

-Is this light supposed to have the 5th rivet for the ground terminal or is that just for the driving lights? If not, then is the ground terminal riveted to the base like the 914 fogs? (See below)

The tractor lights are missing the bulb shield that goes between the bulb and the lense. You can see it on many of the posts. The reflector in the tractor lights has the slots for the bulb shield but not the shield. So, with the tractor lights you can see the bulb (outline) through the lens versus the shield.

Yes, the fifth rivet is on the true Porsche driving lights and does not apply to fog lights.

Much of the above with learned from my friend Michael many of whose posts you will see on this subject.

Thanks Allen. I must not have the tractor lights then. Mine have the bulb shields. Got them from a guy in Germany. They are the same case as the 914 fogs except chrome. Just have to drill the larger holes and rivet the ground tab on.

Allen, On the Porsche spec TN4s, there is an additional spade connection for the ground wire in the TTG harness. It is secured with one of the case to mount rivets. All of the aftermarket versions of these lights do not have the additional spade. They rely on the physical mounting of the light to the chassis body for the ground.

Oh, and the fifth rivet does apply to fog lights as well as the driving lights but, just the halogen versions and ONLY in the original Porsche spec. The aftermarket versions of both those same Euro halogens do not have the fifth rivet.

Steve, short answer to this question is "NO". "Fifth rivet" only applies to the halogen lights and they were used to mount an isolated standoff for the HOT LEAD and not the ground. There is a separate ground spade connection on the halogen reflector.

I am/was speaking of the Tungsten fogs, the ones pictured. But, btw, isn't that a ground(ing) terminal pictured on the lower right rivet?

Yep...I think Steve's lights do not have the spade, so he wants to go ahead and rivet one on. He was showing someone else's lights as a reference I believe.
