Is it a matching # S?

I got some great input yesterday about my 1972 911 s however now the challenge is to price it for sale

Vin # 9112310164
Engine # 6320441
There was a number on the transmission but it could be a part #.
Transmission # 117322485
Can anyone tell me if this is a matching number car? I was confused to look at the plaque where it says Type 911s but in the next box it has an E. Is my car an E or S? I will pay the $115.00 Cert of Authenticity tomorrow. Is that a correct transmission #. If not where is it located. Thanks John john@edwardslabel.com

Why don't you spend your own time and do some research?

The numbers you gave show it to be an S. Your transmission number is probably 7322485. If you look before the number it probably has 915/02 then the number 7322485. All your numbers show it to be a 72S Targa. The 164th one built. Only the COA will tell you if that's your matching number engine and I assume it is as the numbers are close in range. Good Luck.

+1 on the COA if you want to try to validate "numbers matching".

For reference, the numbers on the S Registry list only offer guidance at best. The factory appeared to be very inconsistent when it came to "matching numbers" on a chassis-by-chassis basis. Having a "632xxxx" engine number, though, for a '72 S Targa is the right place to start! :)

E is the series designation corresponding to 1972. Fifth digit of vin "3" indicates it is an S.

You could also call 1 800 PORSCHE and get the info over the phone after you send a copy of the registration to their fax. And its free. Chris

Pretty sure they stopped giving out free phone information awhile back. The COA reliability has also gone down as well.
